Game-rentz is a company which seems to keep its cards close to its chest. They don't divulge much information about where they distribute from or how many titles they have in stock. However, the service seems to be on the right side of average and the website runs pretty smoothly.
After recovering enough to write this review after suffering from the headache the Game-rentz website gave us we weren't in the best mood to sing its praises. However, if you can get past the garish colour scheme Game-rentz offers an ok service. Besides being badly in need of a redesign the web site is actually quite easy to use. One thing that was disappointing was the lack of any status indicator on the availability of games. This is standard on most other sites so really needs to be added pretty soon. However, Game-rentz boast that they maintain 5,000 games in stock at all times so there should be a good chance of getting the game you want.
Unfortunately the last sentence only applies if the game you want is for the Ps3, Xbox360 or Wii. This is the narrowest choice of console platforms we have seen from a video game rental website, but these are probably the most popular consoles so most people will have no problem. However, if you are like us and have one of these at home and also a DS or Psp for carrying around then this probably isn't the site for you.
The service works like most sites in this category. Sign up, fill up your game queue and wait for the games to be delivered. The most expensive price plan allows you three games out at a time and each time you send one back the next available title on your list is sent out.
One nice feature of Game-rentz is that you earn "rent-to-own dollars" for each month you are a member at a rate of 25% of your membership price. These can be used to buy games that you want to keep. Game-rentz will even let you go 50 of these dollars overdrawn when purchasing a game.
Game-rentz is a fairly decent video game rental website. Its lack of information on titles or distribution centres makes us slightly suspicious, but the service has been fine and they offer both email and phone support if anything goes wrong. There are better services than this but at the same time you probably won't go far wrong by picking Game-Rentz.
