On first inspection The Game Junkie appears to be a bog standard video game rental website. On further inspection, it's still a bog standard video game rental web site. It offers a reasonable selection of titles to choose from, reasonably priced plans and ok service. Therefore, it's hard to find anything that The Game Junkie particularly excels at.
Our first port of call with the The Game Junkie was to try and find out how much it might cost us to sign up for membership. Aha! Easy you might say, click one button from the homepage and thou shall be rewarded with the information thou seekest. Unfortunately not. After trawling through the site, and clicking the odd broken link, we could not find this most basic of information anywhere. Ok, let's just sign up and see we thought. Again, easier said than done. Nowhere could we find a nice big button that said join here - and the link for existing users to log in was broken.
Eventually, on a very round about route we managed to find out how much it would cost and then sign up for an account. It should be pointed out here that The Game Junkie does offer quite good prices for its service once you eventually get signed up. The 10 day free trial also helps to sweeten the deal. What's more, it allows you to pay via Paypal which is handy if you don't have a credit card available.
The site works in the way we have come to expect from this type of service. You sign up, fill up your game queue and wait for them to deliver the next available game on it. The Game Junkie will also give you the option to buy certain games if you like them, but you have to go through their online shop to do that.
The service The Game Junkie offers is not quite as good as some sites in this category. To start with they only have one distribution centre in Florida so you west coasters may be waiting a while for your games. Secondly, they don't seems to have many copies of each game available because the status of most games when we looked was "Short wait" or "High Demand". Finally, The Game Junkie's website looks like it hasn't really strayed much from the straight-out-of-the-box template it's based on. Although not exactly difficult to use, it could definitely do with a bit of a spruce up.
The Game Junkie is a very average video game rental service. Not necessarily to be avoided, but it's likely you will find better service else where.
